What will happen to my assets when I pass away?
How will my debts be paid?
How can I make sure that all my children get an equal share?
If I am disabled, who can make decisions on my behalf?
Can I avoid probate?
What happens if one or more of my heirs pass away before I do?
There is a lot more to estate planning than deciding who gets what and when. There are many places where someone can compose a “Do-it-Yourself” will. Unfortunately, a self-made will almost never considers the questions stated above. We know that the less precise a will is, the more time it will spend in probate. The cost of probate is taken directly from the estate. Conceivably, there could be fewer assets available left after the process is through. The goal is to maximize assets going to your beneficiaries.
Don’t let this happen to your loved ones. Contact Stephen L. Nelson & Associates and get the sound advice you need to achieve your goals.
For 34 years, Stephen Nelson has been helping clients draft contracts and plan their estates. As an undergraduate, he studied business administration with an emphasis in accounting. His financial knowledge and attention to detail enable him to draft documents with an eye to the future.
Many lawyers will talk to a client only long enough to find out to whom the client wants to leave assets before writing a basic will. We spend sufficient time meeting with a client so we can get a clear idea about a client's assets, needs, and goals. We pride ourselves on keeping our services cost-effective, but we will not sacrifice quality to do so.
When we first sit down with a client, we listen. We ask questions about the family and family’s history. We consider what would happen in case of disability. If the client has a minor beneficiary we can discuss all options, including a custodianship and establishing a trust. We provide complex tax planning and advice, and we can also work closely with a client's accountants and financial advisors. We can structure your estate so that it can get through probate quickly or largely avoid it.
